This book is very pleasant to rediscover as well as the vocabulary of the 18th century used in Paris. Restif works the language in a very original way. We will never know who the Marquise is, whether Restif was a police indicator or not. What a pleasure to travel by night Paris at the end of the 18th century with the political commentaries of Restif. It is no wonder that Breton became interested in the author who goes and comes to the streets, finds opportunities for narrative, incongruous events.
