Christopher Herold has encapsulated the history of Waterloo in a most understandable narrative. The allies' position is clearly laid out against Napoleon's last stand. There is also excellent background about Napoleon's previous conquests and his escape from Elba. In the end, of course, Wellington and his troops prevail as they should have, although, it was a very close call. This is an excellent read for anyone wanting to know the basic history of the battle of Waterloo. I good general review of the battle. FIRST EDITION.
