By 1854 there were already ten thousand volumes of Napoleana. This book may not contain a geat deal which is historically new, it does provide some curious side-lights on well-known episodes of the period and many had never been published before. Moreover, they were for the most part written at the time by persons who happened to come into actual contact with the great Emperor, and were eye-witnesses of the events related.
